Summary: The school board has passed a worst-case scenario budget that would result in some 5,000 employee layoffs. The board is careful to state that this is not what will happen but what could happen if funding is continued to be bled dry by Gov. Jerry Brown.

Intended Audience: Parents, Students, Teachers

Key Points: Nothing new here, more of the same in terms of 1) Budget is in a bad place; 2) it could get worse before it gets better; 3) it may not even get better.

Relevance: As new teachers in a terrible job market we will not only have to deal with less available jobs, but we will also be faced with THOUSANDS of qualified and experienced teachers vying for the few jobs that are available. The profession is in trouble.
