Topic: Student teacher art show

Talisman Gallery is hosting the Art Teachers and Students Invitational Exhibit through March 27th. Students and teachers from schools around the area display their artworks and have the option to sell them too. This exhibit gives teachers a chance to also present their work, something that they do not normally have the time or opportunity to do.

Key Points:
19-20 schools, grades 7-12 are represented in the exhibit
The art pieces are not labeled as student or teacher produced
The exhibit is available through March 27th

Relevance: I just thought this was a neat opportunity for teachers to be able to display their work along with their fellow students. I think people tend to forget that teachers have other roles and titles that they go by when they are not teaching. They too are artists! The same goes with writers, researchers, photographers, administrators, athletes, or anything else that a teacher teaches and ALSO practices on their own. It would be cool to see more events like this, where teachers can show off their craft or practice along with their fellow students.

  1. I think this is a great idea. We have talked about the story and it was mentioned in that video we watched earlier with the guy drawing with the markers - that kids no longer buy into the story. The story being go to school do well - go to college - get a good job - all is well. They don't see that as true or relevant anymore. The kids at the school I work at really don't believe this because they don't see it represented in their homes. So maybe this could be part of the new story we tell. Look not only do I teach but I am a whole person. You too can be more than a student - you can be an artist - you can be a writer - you can be... Education could be part of the story for them and it could look different. Like education helps you have the freedoms to explore your passions - it opens doors - not just to jobs but to a whole vast variety of things.

  2. YES. What a great way of thinking about this idea, about showing students that teacher's have other roles outside of the classroom, teacher's can be artists, writers, researchers who also struggle to work towards their personal goal, within their field of study and profession. I was only looking at this in terms of having the teacher's work being represented in the real world, but also a good perspective from the student.
