Topic: Ideas for improving education

This article points out differences which exist within the President’s administration and apparently, in his perception of what he thinks is good vs. what his secretary of education believes in. How this all gets finally resolved with the re-write of “no child left behind” will be interesting to see.

Key Points: The reason and use of standardized testing is one area of contention where I hope to see resolution.

Relevance: This new “no child left behind” policy will be key to defining the future of education, watching how this debate plays out in the coming months will be very enlightening.

  1. You know, I did a little research a few months back on the education secretary and it struck me that he was who Obama appointed. It may have more to do with a political favor (the guy is a Chicagoan, after all) than any kind of ideological compatibility. When you look at Mr. Duncan's record and compare it to what we think we know about Obama's beliefs, the two are about as incompatible as they come. The appointment really makes little sense.

That said, this article comes as no surprise.

  2. From what Jeff said, I believe that it might be true that president choose somebody according to his favor. Although I do not know the system so well, I see same thing happens in my country.
I also write about this topic in my 15th article. As I stated I am on the agree side to have NCLB fixed. Let's wait and see how it will be fixed. It will definitly impact education in the future in America.
