Teachers talk openly and frankly with their students, regarding the death of Bin Laden. “Is this vengeance, or was this a military necessity?” Michael Sagehorn, a former Marine officer, asked his 12th-grade government students at the Oakland Military Institute, a charter school in North Oakland, Calif.” Many teachers mentioned, in this brief article, acknowledged their students desire to work through questions like the one above.

This article is relevant because it is a great example of student directed learning. The intended audience is practitioners.

  1. One example of how a teacher used Bin Laden's death to drive learning was - having students look at various news sources to evaluate how Bin Laden's death was reported. I thought that was a neat way to tie in another important skill. Students were not just discussing Bin Laden's death but also looking at and evaluating sources.
