Topic: Higher education goals for all adult Oregonian
Summary: In this article, it is stated that state lawmakers want Oregonians to be far more educated by the year 2025. On Thursday, the Oregon Senate endorsed Senate Bill 253, which write the goals of a state higher education task into law. There are people against this Bill. They said the goal is fine, but too ambitious. The Bill will move to the House next.
Intended audience: All citizens.
Key points: The measure calls for 40 percent of adult Oregonians to have at least a bachelor's degree, another 40 percent at least an associate's degree or post-secondary credential and the remaining 20 percent to have at least a high school diploma.
Relevance: This is a really ambitious goal to me. I am wondering if this will bring any presure to teachers.

  1. This is a very interesting bill for the Oregon Legislature to pass as, you noted Yinyin, it appears to have really wonderful goals, but this article does not define how the goals will be achieved, how the law will be enforced and since it is a law, will there be any punishment for adults or Oregon in general if the law is broken. Will there be another state department set up? Will there be a lot of money invested and if so, where will the money go? There are so many questions for this bill that has such lofty goals that, realistically I am not sure how the goals can be met. But, we will have to wait and see!
