Posting to this Blog

You should have received an email invitation to join this blog. If you have not, please let me know. I would like to establish a few guidelines to ensure that the blog develops smoothly and in a way that makes it accessible to everyone. So as a rule of thumb please do the following whenever you post.

1. Include the url link to the site
for media you can usually use the embed code from the site of origin to bring the file right into your post. At a minimum, however, please copy and paste the URL into your post.

2. Add a label [or tag] in the Labels box on the bottom right so that we can organized posts by themes. For example I am labeling this under help so that all blog use related posts can be categorized, and found more easily as more posts get added to the blog. Multiple labels can be separated by commas. For example - NY Times, Special Education, LD - could be the labels or tags for an article you read on the New York Times about Learning Disabilities.

3. Use an annotated bibliography format to write up your reviews. I provided a template for this in class but the key information for the different types of source reviews [Journal, Book, or Media] should provide the following details:

  1. Scholarly Article - Annotated Bibliography example

Virginia P. Colllier and Wayne P. Thomas, The Astounding Effectiveness of Dual Language Education for All, NABE Journal of Research and Practice, Winter 2004, Volume 2 Issue 1, pp. 1-20

The topic of this article is to share the research finding of a large-scale qualitative and quantitative research study. It was performed in many different school settings around the United States. It states that using a dual language teaching model students achieve proficiency in a second language while continuing to expand upon their language skills. This type of model also helps to close the achievement gap between native English speakers and speakers of other languages. This research study didn’t focus on only Spanish speaking children. This article’s intended audience is practitioners and researchers. The article is relevant to educators and parents to show how successful dual language programs are.

Sample Quote “We started to wonder what could be done (to better student attendance when money is a factor) and what we found was that we could start a borrowing system among our students.” (Zenaida Muslin)

[As I mentioned in class you should also be able to copy and past the embed code if you want to include the actual video]
